There are three access types available:

Public: These boards are available to everyone within your organization. Anyone within your organization can see the details and can operate these boards.

Private: These boards are available to the board owner and to those whom the board owner invites. By default, the person who creates a board is the owner of the board & they can add and invite other team members to collaborate on these private boards. Only the members of a private board can access them & can operate on these boards.

Shared: Shared boards are pretty similar to private boards. The only difference is that a board owner can also invite guests in addition to the team members. Guests are people from outside of the organization. A guest only sees the boards they have been invited to.

There is an option available to set the board access level while creating a new board, as shown below:

You can update the access level of an existing board in one of the three ways only:

  1. Public => Private

  2. Public => Shared
  3. Private => Shared

Any private or shared boards can not be made public. Any shared boards can not be made private.

Note: By default, the sub-boards of any given board inherit the parent board's access type. e.g., If you create a Private board & add sub-boards within it, all sub-boards will also be Private by default. You can not edit the access type of the sub-boards.
